Doxford Youth Project Detached Work

The past few months have been busy, with the detached team out 5 nights a week, aiming to engage with groups of young people on the streets and in the parks of Cramlington.

Fire and rescue services in Cramlington
Doxford continues to work in partnership with Northumbria Fire service and detached workers are out and about with the fire service on a regular basis.  This promotes good relationships between young people and the local fire service and offers unique opportunities such as road traffic collision training to young people.

Group Work

Through our detached work we develop group work with young people.  This gives young people the opportunity to take part in informal learning as well as become active in issues affecting them.

The Skate Park
Detached workers continue to work in the skate park, working with many of the skaters, bmxers and bladers who frequent there.  They also continue to support these groups of young people to become active in local politics and have supported meetings between young people and local Councillors.  This work concentrates on trying to get repairs carried out in the skate park as well as passing on young people’s feedback about the skate park.  We have just finished a young person’s evaluation on the skate park open day where 13 young people turned up to give their points of view.  This feedback will also be shared with workers from the local Council and Councillors.

The BMXers

After taking part in a graffiti work shop this group are interested in exploring more art activities such as photography.  They are also working towards their first key fund stage.  They are hoping to visit a different skate park and go for a meal.

Skaters

With support from Doxford detached team their hard work and constant lobbying paid off and Cramlington got its own skate park.   They are now looking at completing their last key fund stage.  Their new idea involves researching and interpreting the holocaust through a mixture art, photography and literature to create a book which they can then take into schools to educate other young people. ..ambitious?  Watch this space...

No Hair
